Artist's Statement |
| I love to walk along deserted beaches collecting shells, where the ebb and flow of the tide constantly changes the scene, and where fast moving clouds pass by revealing vivid blue skies one minute, and amazing storm clouds the next. Every way you look is a different view, changing from day to day, tide to tide and season to season. Here I feel at one with nature and these things are a constant source of inspiration.
Back home, as I work away in my studio, applying paint to my neatly stretched watercolour paper, adding more here, lifting out there, blending and spattering, I am constantly trying to capture these wonderful memories. Not knowing how it may turn out is the very nature of watercolour, as with one misplaced brush stroke, it could be spoilt in an instant. For each painting is on a journey with me, until I am finally satisfied with the image before me. Nicola Hancox |
